DealerDrive, an agency, or in house.
Looking for a dealership marketing agency alternative? You have three real options for advertising your inventory. Here is where each one wins and where each one breaks.
The dealership marketing agency alternative, side by side.
| Capability | DealerDrive | Generalist agency | In house |
|---|---|---|---|
| VIN level catalog ads | Auto built from your feed | Boosted posts, partial catalog | Manual, goes stale |
| Google Vehicle Listing Ads | Included | Usually a separate scope | Rarely set up |
| AI lead scoring | 0 to 100 on every fill | None | None |
| CRM delivery | Universal ADF, under one second | CSV or email handoff | Typed in by hand |
| Sold unit removal | Same day | Weekly at best | When someone remembers |
| Catalog maintenance | Monitored daily | Set up once, rarely revisited | Whenever there is time |
| Reporting | Cost per lead and sale through by score | Impressions and reach | Ads Manager screenshots |
| Who owns the ad account | You do | Varies, check the contract | You do |
| Contract | Month to month | 6 to 12 months typical | None |
| Monthly cost | $499 per rooftop | $1,500 to $4,000 plus retainers | Staff time, often underestimated |
When each one is the right call.
DealerDrive
Inventory advertising is the job
You want every unit in market, leads filtered before they reach the BDC, and delivery straight into the CRM. You do not want to manage any of it week to week.
Agency
You need brand and creative too
If the scope is television, radio, brand campaigns, events, and a website rebuild, a full service agency covers ground we do not. Ask them directly what percentage of your live units are in the catalog today.
In house
You already have the person
If someone on staff genuinely owns Meta and Google, has time weekly, and your lead volume is low enough to work every record, in house is cheaper and perfectly reasonable.
The question worth asking any vendor.
Ask whoever runs your ads today for two numbers: what percentage of your live inventory is currently in the catalog, and how many of last month's leads had a phone number that connected. Most vendors cannot answer either one, and both are measurable in an afternoon.
That is not a sales line. If your current setup answers both well, you do not need us, and we will say so.
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep my current agency and add DealerDrive?
Some stores do, usually with the agency on brand and retail campaigns while DealerDrive runs inventory advertising and lead qualification. What does not work is two vendors both editing the same catalog, so we agree the boundary before launch.
Why not just do this in house?
You can, and some stores do it well. The two things that break are maintenance and scoring. A catalog needs weekly attention to stay complete, and lead scoring needs a model tuned against your own closed deals, which is not a spare afternoon project.
What does a generalist agency usually miss?
Catalog completeness and CRM delivery. Most report on impressions and reach because that is what the platform hands them, while nobody is checking how many of your live units are actually in the catalog or how the leads reach your team.
