How to advertise used cars on Facebook

Posting cars one at a time eats your day and goes stale by the weekend. Here is how dealers put the whole lot on Facebook and keep it current.

Two ways to do it

Manual posts vs inventory ads.

Most dealers start by posting cars by hand. It works for a handful of units. It does not work for a whole lot, because posts go stale the moment a price changes and sold cars stay up until someone remembers. Inventory ads turn your feed into one ad per unit and keep it current for you.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace for dealers, and where inventory ads fit.

Marketplace is where a lot of local shoppers browse cars, so it is natural to want your units there. Dealer inventory listings on Marketplace come through Meta's approved partner programs, and Meta decides who qualifies and changes those rules from time to time. Check Meta's current dealer listing rules, or ask your inventory provider whether it is an approved partner.

Inventory ads are a separate route, and one you control. Facebook catalog ads can show in Marketplace placements, as well as in the feed, Stories, and Reels, so your units can appear where Marketplace shoppers are scrolling. DealerDrive runs those inventory ads. It does not post listings to Marketplace for you.

Stay in sync

Keep photos, prices, and sold units in sync.

The fastest way to lose a Facebook shopper is an ad for a car you sold last week, or a price that does not match your website. Inventory ads run from the same feed as your website, so photos, prices, and availability stay matched without anyone editing a post.

  • New arrivals typically go live within 24 hours
  • Price changes follow your feed automatically
  • Sold units drop out the same day
  • Google Vehicle Listing Ads run from the same feed

Frequently asked questions

Can dealers list cars on Facebook Marketplace?

Dealer inventory listings on Marketplace come through Meta's approved partner programs, and Meta sets and changes who qualifies, so check Meta's current rules or ask your inventory provider. Inventory ads are the route you control: Facebook catalog ads can show in Marketplace placements as ads. DealerDrive runs those inventory ads. It does not post Marketplace listings for you.

Do I need Ads Manager experience?

No. DealerDrive builds and runs the catalog and the campaigns inside your own Meta Business account with partner access. Nobody on your team has to open Ads Manager, and you keep ownership of the page, the ad account, and the pixel.

What do I need to get started?

Three things: your inventory feed, which is a scheduled CSV or XML export from your DMS, website provider, or syndication partner; partner access to your Meta Business account; and the ADF lead address from your CRM rep. It typically takes under an hour of your time, and ads are typically live in about a week.
